​Dilshad writes and talks on a number of things. Things that move her, urge her to speak up, or make her stop in wonder.  Often, what she write comes up in speaking events, because she's found that a lot of the things that make her put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) are the same ones she talks about - get out of your comfort zone, be resilient, be strong, be compassionate and never ever lose that sense of humour! ​While I was at National Geographic Channel, my team and I came up with a reality show called Mission Udaan. We partnered with the Indian Air Force to give five ordinary Indians the chance to fly in a Sukhoi. Crazy! But oh boy! What fun it was to create that one! While working on Mission Udaan, a fighter pilot told me:
Soch jab gehri ho jaye, toh faisle kamzor ho jaate hai. 
A less poetic way to put that in English would be Analysis Paralysis.
I think we all spend too much thinking, analyzing, pondering. When really, we should be listening to our instincts. Malcolm Gladwell describes it best in his book Blink - what we call a "gut feeling" is our subconscious recognizing patterns and connections in the blink of an eye.

THIS VIRUS...IT'S YODA!

I heard the wise Dr. Shefali  Tsabary say this on her Facebook chat: “you know, this virus, it’s like Yoda! So many teachings, so much to learn!” I'm a Star Wars fan and so I spent the next 30 minutes recalling all the quotes of Yoda I could remember, and I thought to myself, “oh bloody hell! How right she is!”

IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING

Everest Base Camp was always my dream, ever since I came up with this crazy docu-reality show while at National Geographic Channel. I did this trek, two years after my cancer surgeries and treatment. I maxed my body out on this one, but what I learnt in the bargain has stayed with me forever...

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE...

...to start from the beginning. I learnt to ski when I was 50 - and only because my 5 year old came whizzing down the slopes, saw me hesitate and yelled: "Cluck! Cluck! Mommy is a chicken!" It didn't take me a second to go whizzing after her, even if I ended up in an ungainly heap at the bottom!

MAKE THE TIME

"If you're in the office for over 12 hours and still haven't finished your work, sorry to say this darling, but you're f.....g inefficient."
My dad was right, I had to grudgingly admit. I couldn't break out of that cycle I had created. It had been 5 years and I hadn't taken a day off - except when I had the measles.

RAISING A LI'L WARRIOR

It's not easy bringing up a little girl these days - in the times we live in, even the tiniest of them are not spared. My husband and I decided to bring up a little warrior. So, little tiny scratches are to be dismissed and the bigger wounds are medals to be worn proudly...

MGMT. LESSONS I LEARNT

The great outdoors is the best teacher ever. I've learnt my most important management lessons on my treks and trips. Lessons no management course could ever teach me.  And these lessons aren't easy to forget - not when you've spent arduous hours on a trail there was no getting out of!

INTERNSHIP IS A FIRST JOB

This one came out of pure angst. Over several years of senior management roles, I have seen many young interns. For most of them, it's a check box on that college graduation form and there's a rare intern who's taken their internship seriously. If you don't have time to be serious, I don't have the time to teach you.
